Next manager - options
|
It’s not often a manager turns it around from Moyes current position, it looks like the writings on the wall. So who could we replace him with?
Tuchel, Pochetino seem unlikely. The latter being more likely but will want a war chest. Parker doesn’t have the pedigree and seems to be a short term impact manager without the skills to manage a biggish side. What about taking a modern manager, a risk but seems to be working for others, eg Brighton. Christian Streich from Friegberg? Ruben Amorim At Sporting? Oliver Glasner from Frankfurt?
Do we have the clout to attract a big name or upcoming star? I doubt we have a plan b lines up…a bit like Moyes
Other options?

It's really difficult to say, if not impossible, so I'm not gonna sit here and rack my brains trying to think of possible managers from world football, but what I would say is that if we sell the club right and have some more money available I think Poch is realistic, even if some would disagree.

Manuel I think he would as well. We’re a decent sized club, in London also in Europe. We can also pay decent money and have a generally good squad. Should be sounding him out now. If he says yes pull the plug on Moyes now. Gotta start thinking more big time mentally rather than this small club mentality

I'm not sure Poch is possible, we should definitely try though

We all know that it's going to be Noble as a caretaker manager

Mark Warburton after Pochettino publicly turns us down only to join Everton or Leicester.

They're not going to go with a well-researched, ambitious name, are they?

Pochettino ? As he who took the easy option in management in the last 3 years.

The european appointments seem very hit and miss. Although Brighton seem to have done very well with their new boss.
Thomas Frank seems a good candidate but can't see them paying up for him.
Scott Parker seems to play good football, knows the club inside out and good record at both Bournemouth and Fulham.
Marcelo Bielsa
Will play fast attacking football and certainly would be a good fit with the fans

I think Noble steps in in January in a Trevor Brooking capacity and possibly brings Scott Parker in to his team.
I wouldn’t be too unhappy about that to be fair.

Wolves have just managed to bag themselves what appears to be a very good manager in Lopetegui. He's previously managed Spain, Real Madrid, Porto and Sevilla.
I don't see why we couldn't attract a big name if we wanted to go down that route.

Noble is not an option as manager - he's never managed a team in his life. Not even spent a day as a manager. The risk involved in throwing him into what is currently a relegation battle is far too high. If that went wrong and we were relegated, imagine the uproar among fans about not appointing somebody with some experience?
It's a non-starter.

Look at the cv of managers Villa and Wolves appointed. We have the better team, bigger stadium and, by next season, richest owners. We can attract anyone

Bielsa is also a non-starter, for me, because he still doesn't speak English to a high enough standard to coach in the language.
Again, imagine the risk involved in bringing a manager into a relegation battle - and he can't directly communicate with his players at half-time in key games. He'd have that fucking annoying 'shadow' interpreter hovering over his shoulder trying to bollock Kehrer and Antonio about their lack of concentration.
It's asking for trouble. You've got to be realistic and think about what any appointment actually looks like on a daily basis.
Too much pressure and risk involved in appointing the likes of Noble and (for different reasons) Bielsa (who is generally a fine manager).

If you're in trouble, as we are at the moment, then don't appoint somebody who can't speak the language properly. Just look what happened when Newcastle tried that with Shearer..!

Try for Poch, might as well try although I’m pretty certain he’ll say no. I think Thomas Frank should be first choice, every time I’ve heard him talk about the game he has impressed.

If someone offered you the chance to earn big money and manage the likes of neymar, mbappe and messi you’d be absolutely mental to not take it. If we can play how his Tottenham team did I’d be well happy. Modern attacking football rather than this safety first bullshit we’re currently being made to watch.

Does anyone know much about how the Czech fella operates? He might be one of these owners that brings in his mates. Might end up with Czech coaching staff

Have said on other thread that Thomas Frank should be our first choice.
He does like a back 5 but plays two attacking full backs / wingers and 3 up front.
Quick attacking high intensity football.
Plus they keep the ball better than most teams.
